The Story
Behind the Film
In 2008, California legalized gay marriage. Later that year, they said it was a mistake.

In the short film 2008, a young woman reflects on her experience growing up in an LGBTQIA+ family in San Francisco while California repealed same-sex marriage. Against the backdrop of a historical Presidential election and the dysfunctional marriage between her two moms, this young girl had one wish: a pet cat.

While a lot of media tokenizes marginalized identities, 2008 doesn’t preach or pander but instead, uses a blend of animation and live-action to tell a story that truthfully reflects the lives of LGBTQIA+ families.

Join us on a journey of life: messy, chock-full of existential questions, and garnished with a sprinkle of hope.
